Major spoilers for Beyond Zork follow. If you haven't at least gotten
past the Christmas Tree monsters, do not read any further.
SPOILER SPACE

Beyond Zork is supposed to take place concurrently with Spellbreaker. In
Spellbreaker, magic is eventually destroyed which is the whole reason you
are sent after the coconut in Beyond Zork. When you solve the puzzle with
the Christmas Tree Monsters, you do so by drawing the glyph of warding in
the lava to keep the monsters from stomping the village. However, the
glyph is magical. So, when magic is destroyed, presumably the glyph will
lose all power. Goodbye Thriff! The Christmas Tree monsters will now be
able to roam free. Wonder why they didn't think of this when they came up
with that puzzle?
