I've found the coffin in the octagonal room, and opening and examining
it reveals an exciting inscription inside the lid. But nothing I've
tried so far persuades it to tell me what it is!

Just about everything seems just to repeat the message that there's an
inscription on the inside of the lid. In particular, I'd expect "read
inscription" and similar commands, to work, but they don't.

Is this a bug in Curses? A bug in the interpreter that I'm using?
(Which is ITF based, not ZIP based, so that could be it I suppose.)
