The study contains a number of things for us to investigate, which we can do in any order. Let's start with the desk.

	> examine desk

Among other things, the desk contains our grandfather's papers. Maybe these will shed some light on the situation.

	> examine papers
	> read letters

Perhaps the calamity predicted by Dovenby is the same thing that motivated our grandfather. It also seems that our grandfather may have taken possession of some important items. That may come up later. For the time being, let's turn our attention to the maps on the desk.

	> examine maps
	> open maps
	> read maps

It seems our grandfather discovered a 'chief temple' at a place called Kardeva. Let's keep that in mind.

	> search desk

There are a few items of note. Let's hold on to them in case they prove useful.

	> examine statuette
	> take it
	> examine crystal
	> take it

Maybe we should take a look at the books next.

	> examine books

We have two possible leads, the books about the Illuvian empire on the third bookcase and the introductory texts above the desk. Let's start with the latter.

	> examine introductory books

We have noticed three books in particular. Looks like we'd better get reading.

	> read unseen world

This book provides some historical material but nothing immediately useful. Let's move on to the next book.

	> read magician's tools

That was quite a lot of information. We have learnt about magic circles, though the instructions for drawing one are not particularly good. Let's try anyway.

	> draw circle

That proved fruitless. But perhaps if we look around we may be able to find one.

	> examine armchair
	> look under rug

There it is. Our grandfather had one at hand. Let's step inside it.

	> enter circle

We feel strengthened, but we don't need to conduct any rituals right now so let's leave the circle straight away.

	> exit circle

It seems like the magic is still with us. The 'Magician's Tools' also mentioned familiars. Perhaps now's a good time to investigate our grandfather's parrot.

	> examine bird

The bird keeps talking to us. Perhaps we can talk to it?

	> talk to bird

Since the bird seems to be able to communicate quite well, maybe we can ask it some questions. We could try asking about the calamity mentioned in our grandfather's letters.

	> ask bird about calamity

The bird isn't worried but perhaps we shouldn't drop the topic so easily.

	> again

Well, that's less reassuring. In any case, the book mentioned that familiars can be asked to bestow their magic. Let's give that a try.

	> ask bird for magic

We have gained some more magical strength. Let's continue by reading the other book we found above the desk.

	> read letters of lucian calenso

It seems Calenso was familiar with a language called Eoixete glyphs. He also worked on a repository of knowledge in the form of a brazen head. Moreover, there happens to be a brass bust right here.

	> talk to bust

The bust speaks. Perhaps it may be able to answer some questions.

	> ask bust about itself
	> again
	> ask bust about calamity

Next, let's try asking it about the glyphs.

	> ask bust about glyphs

It speaks the language. Perhaps we can ask it to teach us.

	> ask bust to teach glyphs

It's willing to provide instruction, so let's proceed.

	> again

Earlier, we discovered that the books about the Illuvian empire are on the third bookcase. If there's a third bookcase, there must be a first bookcase as well. Let's start there.

	> examine first bookcase
	> read demonological
	> read sorcerous

We have discovered an incantation that is supposed to strengthen magic rituals. Perhaps we should attempt it ourselves.

	> read incantantion

Let's continue with the next bookcase.

	> examine second bookcase
	> read fire worship

The priests of Kaduska wielded fire against their enemies. Sounds like a handy ability. Perhaps it could be useful if we run into any trouble.

	> read snake gods

The snake gods of Abilawi were said to live on the moon. Sounds outlandish, but let's keep it in mind.

	> read ithilkyra

It's said that the ancient queen's followers still invoke her name in their rituals. Perhaps we can do the same.

	> invoke ithilkyra

That seemed to provide us with some more magic. On to the next book.

	> read conjurations

We've already been warned that demons are dangerous but perhaps it's worth the risk. Let's try summoning the entity the book mentioned.

	> summon eyveru

The demon has appeared. Let's ask it some questions.

	> ask figure about itself
	> ask figure about calamity

Very concerning. Perhaps the demon can aid us magically in the same way the bird did.

	> ask figure about magic

The demon claims to have power but either can't or won't assist us. Let's try pressing a little further.

	> again

This isn't getting us anywhere. Let's leave the spirit alone.

	> examine fourth bookcase
	> read ancient religion

We've discovered the location of an ancient shrine. Perhaps a brief excursion may be in order. The instructions for the magic mirror said that we can step through it to any destination we can think of, so let's think about where we want to go and then step through it.

	> think about harvopa
	> step through mirror

The place is definitely magical. The only question is how we obtain any of that magic.

	> touch shrine

That's given us some more magic. The instructions for the mirror said we need to think about home to go back. Let's do that and continue our studies.

	> think about home
	> read forbidden lore

We probably shouldn't snuff out any stars. Let's keep protection from the void and banishment in mind for later. The books on the fifth bookcase provide some background information and the books on the sixth bookcase may be useful later. Let's ignore them for now and turn to the seventh bookcase.

	> examine seventh bookcase
	> read arcana

This book feels magical while it's in our hands. Maybe we should hang on to it.

	> take arcana

It seems to be working. Let's turn our attention to the next book.

	> read prophecies

If what's written here is right, we have two threats to contend with. We can address them in either order. Let's start with the enemy from below, which is said to originate from a 'chief temple'. Perhaps this is the same chief temple from our grandfather's map, which was labelled Kardeva.

	> think about kardeva
	> enter mirror

We find ourselves in the temple, its priests poised to attack us. Perhaps we can try conversation before resorting to violence.

	> talk to priests
	> ask priests about themselves
	> ask priests about demons

The priests have given us some information, as well as an offer for us to serve them. If we mean to agree, they request a totem. We could give them the grotesque statuette we have in our possession. If not, we're probably going to have to fight.

	> attack priests

We're heavily outnumbered. Hand to hand combat doesn't seem to be a viable solution. We may recall learning that the priests of Kaduska wielded fire against their enemies. Maybe we can try to do the same. Fortunately, we have already amassed enough magic power for the technique to succeed.

	> attack priests with fire

With the priests dead, we can venture further into the temple.

	> down
	> cross bridge

Some demonic entity is impeding our progress. Let's return to the study to regroup.

	> think about home

Maybe it's finally time to investigate the research our grandfather was pursuing.

	> examine third bookcase
	> read travaria

The priestess mentioned in the book is said to be of royal birth. We may speculate she is the ruby-adorned princess our grandfather was interested in. It seems that she was buried alive in her temple. If we knew where that was, maybe we could go there to look for clues.

	> read cults

We have learnt that the jeweled priests maintained a temple at a place called Daranassa. This sounds like an organization to which a ruby-adorned princess would belong. Perhaps it's the temple we're looking for.

	> think about daranassa
	> step through mirror

The room contains a number of coffins. Let's take a closer look at them.

	> examine coffins

We have discovered a coffin that may contain the woman we're looking for. Let's open it.

	> open coffin

Somehow, the ruby-adorned princess is still alive. This should make things easier. Let's try to get some answers.

	> talk to woman
	> ask woman about herself
	> again

Maybe she has something to say about the ruby necklace.

	> ask woman about ruby

The ruby necklace is supposed to offer us some protection from demons. Now that we have it in our possession, let's go back to the temple and try to cross the bridge again.

	> go to kardeva
	> down
	> cross bridge

This time, we were able to make it to the other side. We are confronted with a statue, which appears to be sacred to the demon worshippers who maintain this temple.

	> examine statue
	> destroy statue

Our efforts to destroy the statue have proved fruitless. Fortunately, there's a chasm right here.

	> push statue into chasm

With the statue destroyed, let's head home and turn our attention to the other threat.

	> think about home

The prophecy claimed that the attack from above can be thwarted by a sequence written in Eoixete glyphs. As it happens, we are now familiar with that language. Let's see if we have any books written in it.

	> examine sixth bookcase

With our understanding of the language, we are able to recognize a book that may be relevant.

	> read apocalypse

We now have access to the sequence that it is claimed will thwart the invasion. The book told us that the source of the threat is the gods of Abilawi, who, we may recall, are said to live on the moon.

	> go to moon

Unfortunately, we're unlikely to be able to survive on the moon without some further precaution. At this point, we may remember that one of the books offered a ritual supposed to grant protection from the void. That could be what we need. To perform it, we are told to pray to the god of the abyss. As unsettling as that sounds, let's give it a try.

	> pray to god of the abyss
	> go to moon

We have made it to the moon and there is a structure here. Let's see if we can get inside.

	> enter structure

We could try to converse with the creatures before resorting to violence.

	> talk to reptilians
	> ask reptilians about themselves
	> again
	> ask reptilians about demons

The reptilians purport to be peaceful. In fact, they claim to be helping protect mankind. If we believe them, we could give them the crystal they request. Otherwise, we'll need to fight. Let's try to dispatch them in the same way we did the priests.

	> attack reptilians with fire

The creatures were able to defend against the attack. We'll have to find another method of dealing with them. When we read the book 'Forbidden Lore', we learnt about banishment. As unpleasant as such a fate sounds, we may have to resort to it.

	> banish reptilians

We were told that the sequence we discovered will thwart this threat. We just need to find a way to utilize it.

	> examine implements
	> enter sequence on implements

We have now succeeded in defeating both threats. Mankind is safe for the time being and our grandfather can rest in peace.
